Minutes of the DYS Monthly Meeting

Attending the meeting were:

Sheila Crotts, John Webb, Shelley O’Donnell, Janet Gargan, Steve Gargan, Frank Pellino, Jeff Chambers, Bob Trudeau, Brian McQuesten, Larry Pickering, Dave Clarkson, Ernie Dion, Al DeBenedictis, Steve Burrill, Tom Conway, Chip Moore, Ellen Chambers, Dick Crotts, Jerry Morin, Sharon McManus, Mike Gilbert, Tom Guidi, Jim Russo, Phil Sullivan and Larry Davis.

Meeting attendance was 25 people.

President's Message- Dave Clarkson:

Suggested changing format of meetings limiting them from 7:30 – 9:15 with short presentations from board members.

Secretary’s Report:

December and January minutes were approved. Minutes to be e-mailed to all board members and coaches that have an e-mail address in order to save on postage.

Please send your email address to DYS@THEGLOBE.com to receive the minutes electronically. Also, the minutes will be kept on the website currently under development.

The prototype of the new DYS web site is available at http://www/geocities.com/danversys. This site should be completed in March when it will be moved over to the www.danversyouthsoccer.org address. The www.danversyouthsoccer.org site will still be kept up to date while the new site is under development.

Registrar’s report:

Registration sign ups were held Tuesday Feb 1st 6:30 - 8 PM

- 45 intramural players signed up and 4 travel players

Next one is Wednesday March 8th – 6:30 – 8 PM

Coaches: please advise how many players are returning so teams can be formed

Travel Report:

30 teams set up for the spring

DYS was charged over $300 for fines – for late reporting – and sportsmanship issues.

ALL Travel Coaches MUST attend a meeting or cannot coach first game.

March 29 Kings Grant at 7PM

or if unable to attend on 3/29, an alternate Essex County meeting will be held :

March 28 Georgetown Country Club 7PM

April 2 Eastman-Gelatine Peabody 7PM

Essex County travel season starts April 9 through June 11 – no games on Easter or Memorial Day weekend. Sportsmanship Standards needs to be reinforced. Coaches and teams will be reminded.

Zero tolerance policy is to be adopted by Essex County Youth Soccer Association before, during and after soccer games. Must emphasize that there is no place for inappropriate behavior by players, coaches or spectators toward any referee.

Motion by John Webb and seconded by Jeff Chambers to adopt this model as a policy to be rewritten and adopted as a DYS Program – will determine how to best distribute to coaches and parents. This will be issued as part of our conduct policy. Motion approved.

VP of Operations:

Ernie Dion has field permits for St. Johns Prep for the Memorial Day Tournament and for the YMCA fields for the spring season. YMCA field will be lined for games and practices.

U-6 Soccer possibly to be moved from 8:30 to 8AM.

Treasurer’s Report and Budget:

Motion to approve budget and January Treasurer’s report as presented by Brian McQuesten, unanimously approved.

Long Term Strategy Committee:

Council on Danvers Youth Sports met and discussed the possibility of a building at Plains Park. Committee meets on the second Saturday of each month at 7:30 AM. The idea of bringing all the leagues together has been well accepted in town. John Webb is the contact for information.

Intramural Tournament Committee:

DEADLINE FOR ITC HAS PASSED! 143 registered players for spring tournament soccer. 11 teams to be formed. Committee will meet shortly to place players on teams.

Danvers Invitational Tournament:

Next DIT meeting is February 16 at Stop and Shop 7:30 PM. ALL ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND – HELP PLAN OUR BIG SOCCER EVENT OF THE YEAR

Other New Business:

Registration fee survey presented of other towns fees for soccer. Our operation presently runs at a deficit. Without a successful spring tournament, DYS would not be able to operate. This will be reviewed by the registrar and presented at the March meeting.
